Winter Menagerie

How are you doing on this fine Monday? I’m trying to feel Christmas-y, despite our humid 80 degree weather. We went to a Christmas light parade last night. I arrived with straight hair and left with wavy hair and even a few curls. Hello, Christmas in the tropics!

While we will definitely not be having a white Christmas around these parts, I’ve created my own winter wonderland inside. I’ve mentioned before how we don’t have a mantle over our fireplace, so I use the top of our entertainment center for decorating {which will all soon be changing! stay tuned!}.

I fell in love with the mason jar snow globes that Anthropologie had last year {and have since been popping up all over the blogosphere}, so I created my very own winter menagerie using vintage inspired bottle brush trees, vintage plastic deer, and a little faux snow.

I love these sweet little vintage, winter scenes. I’m kinda obsessed with deer in my decor right now, so I’m really enjoying all of these little fellas. I found a package of about 15 or so bottle brush trees on clearance after Christmas last year for about 75 cents {woohoo!} and bought a group of the plastic deer on eBay. Most of the jars and glass containers I already had on hand. I created a cloche by using the glass from an old, ugly clock I found at Goodwill for a couple of bucks {because cloches are expensive!}.

We have a tradition that every year we take a picture of our little family in front of the tree, and then frame it with the year. I saw this at one of my college pastor’s homes when they had a Christmas party at their place for all of us. It was so neat to see how their family changed and grew over the years, and I knew it was a tradition I wanted to start with my own family as well. I’ve placed the ones we’ve collected so far in the center.

Hanging above my mini winter wonderland is my music sheet and pinecone wreath that I made last year. I used paged from an old hymnal to roll up into cones that I hot glued onto a wreath form I cut out of foam core board. I then glued a ring of pine cones in the center and glittered them up a bit. This will carry me over into winter as well.

Are you adding to or changing up your Christmas decor this year, or keeping it the same? It can be expensive to choose a different theme every year, so I like to add and tweak year to year. It’s always exciting to pull out decorations that have memories attached, but just as exciting to create new little scenes.

Have a wonderful Monday, y’all! Expect more Christmas-y goodness from me in the coming days! :)
